It is hard to find places in this area that are really suitable to eat at during a diet. In the vicinity there are oodles of pub grub and heavily processed foods and not much of the other. However, the Greenbean at Todwick in Sheffield is perfect for these occasions. The café is situated in a garden centre, just off the A57. On the menu here, you will find a variety of foods from a full English breakfast to a fresh, hearty salad.
The café has a trendy, urban feel to it. It is light and airy with a view straight through in to the kitchen, no matter where you are sat inside. There is also outdoor seating for our better weather days. The surrounding area isn’t the best as you are literally just off the busy A57 on the road side, but once inside and sat down, you would not have a clue.
I ordered quiche of the day and salad which was goats cheese and asparagus. It came with a leafy salad, hand cooked crisps and home made coleslaw. Honestly, this was potentially one of the most delightful plates of salad I have ever eaten. The quiche was beautifully cooked with substantial chunks of cheese and asparagus, I just did not want this to end. The home made coleslaw was to die for, so tasty with a great quality mayonnaise. I also had a side portion of home made chips, absolute perfection, chunky and flavoursome a plenty. Yes, the chips are not exactly diet food but it had to be done! Only potato at the end of the day, right?
After eating the entire plate (and having a little cry that it was over) we ordered some hot drinks; coffees and a peppermint tea. The coffees were just splendid, great taste and the peppermint tea came in a funky teapot with the loose leaves in the top. Great touch.
The staff are attentive and although we ate during a busy period, still managed to be there right when we needed them.
The food is priced well, all that salad for £7.95. For three of us, the total came to around £30 which for a delicious lunch in a comfortable setting is not unreasonable.
